The meeting, which lasted several hours, brought together leaders from Wiper and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as opposition leaders explore the possibility of presenting a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto.
According to reports by Daily Nation, The Star and People Daily, Kalonzo arrived at Gachagua's home accompanied by several political allies. Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, received him at the entrance.
Among those accompanying Kalonzo were Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr and Kitui Governor Julius Malombe.
Other leaders present included Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha, Senator John Methu, Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia and EALA MP Kanini Kega, alongside other political allies.
After the meeting, Gachagua said the discussions focused on Kenya's political future and the formation of a new administration.
"I have this morning held extensive consultations with my cousin, His Excellency Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and the leadership of Wiper on the liberation of our country and the formation of the 6th administration. Wamunyoro remains centre of unity," Gachagua said.
Kalonzo also defended his relationship with the former Deputy President, dismissing suggestions that their meetings were evidence of political disagreements.
"Since impeachment of H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, he and I have stood together as friends and allies. My brother Rigathi has been to my Muuna home in Tseikuru. Now I have been to his in Wamunyoro. What is wrong with friends and cousins visiting one another?" Kalonzo said.
He added that the bigger concern for the government should be the possibility of opposition leaders working together.
"What worries the predator regime is not a visit between friends and cousins. It is a united alternative government in waiting," he stated.
The visit comes six days after Gachagua hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at the same residence on October 20.
According to Citizen Digital, the earlier meeting brought Gachagua and Sifuna into discussions about the opposition's 2027 election strategy, with both leaders emerging among the potential contenders for the opposition's presidential ticket.
However, the meeting also triggered debate over who should lead the opposition and whether Kalonzo would be expected to support Sifuna's presidential ambitions.
On Sunday, October 25, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said the party had settled on Sifuna as its preferred candidate and wanted Kalonzo to support him.
The remarks drew a sharp response from Wiper, whose spokesperson, Ndegwa Njiru, dismissed the suggestion that Kalonzo was being summoned to endorse Sifuna.
The Star reported that the disagreement exposed emerging differences over the opposition's presidential ambitions even as leaders continued calling for unity.
Gachagua, however, has maintained that opposition leaders must be prepared to make sacrifices to agree on a single candidate.
In remarks on the possible presidential ticket, he said he was willing to consider different arrangements involving himself, Sifuna and Kalonzo.
"We shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to settle on ONE presidential candidate. I can deputise Sifuna. Sifuna can deputise me. Sifuna can deputise Kalonzo. Kalonzo can deputise Sifuna. You will love it," Gachagua said.
The seating arrangement during Monday's meeting has also attracted attention, with some observers interpreting Kalonzo and Gachagua's side-by-side positioning as a sign of political equality and mutual respect.
However, the arrangement alone does not establish whether either leader has secured a preferred position in the emerging opposition coalition.
Meanwhile, President Ruto used his tour of the Ukambani region on Monday to take a swipe at Kalonzo over the Wamunyoro meeting.
According to The Standard and Capital FM, Ruto recalled campaigning for Kalonzo during the 1992 General Election when the Wiper leader contested the Mwingi North parliamentary seat on a KANU ticket.
The President urged Kalonzo to return the political favour by supporting his re-election bid in 2027. He also mocked the possibility of Kalonzo undergoing another round of negotiations over the opposition's presidential ticket, drawing comparisons with the selection process ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Kalonzo had earlier spoken at ACK Ithareini Church in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, where he defended his association with Gachagua and accused unnamed individuals of attempting to create confusion within the opposition.
He urged Kenyans to ignore what he described as propaganda and insisted that consultations among opposition leaders were aimed at building unity.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, the central question remains whether Kalonzo, Gachagua and Sifuna can agree on a common presidential candidate or whether competing ambitions will complicate efforts to build a united political front against Ruto.
For now, the Wamunyoro meeting has reinforced the importance of continued negotiations, but the opposition's final presidential ticket remains undecided.
