Nairobi Mother Arrested for Killing Son Over Soiling Himself – Police Investigate

A Nairobi mother and her friend have been arrested in connection with the shocking death of a four-year-old boy, who was allegedly beaten to death for soiling himself. Authorities say the suspect, Melvin Owuor, initially attempted to cover up the crime before police investigations unraveled the tragic truth.

How the Incident Unfolded

On December 9, 2024, Owuor and her friend arrived at Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary with the lifeless body of her son. However, instead of staying to complete necessary formalities, the two women left suddenly and switched off their phones, raising immediate suspicion.

“This was highly unusual behavior. Typically, grieving parents stay behind for post-mortem procedures. Their disappearance raised an alarm,” said a senior officer at Mowlem Police Station, where the case was reported.

Concerned by the suspicious circumstances, a mortuary attendant alerted the authorities, prompting detectives from Dandora and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) to launch a full investigation.

A Horrifying Discovery

Initially, Owuor claimed that her son had passed away in his sleep. However, forensic analysis and witness statements contradicted her story. Investigators found that the child had suffered fatal injuries inflicted by his mother after an incident where he soiled himself.

“The injuries were consistent with severe physical abuse. This was not an accident,” a detective working on the case confirmed.

Under intense questioning, Owuor eventually confessed to beating her son. The brutal assault caused internal injuries that led to his death.

Community Reacts in Shock

The tragic case has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing outrage over the brutality inflicted on the innocent child.

“This is heartbreaking. How can a mother kill her own child over something so minor?” asked Mary Achieng, a neighbor, struggling to hold back tears.

Child rights activists are now calling for stricter interventions to protect children from domestic abuse.

A Growing Pattern of Domestic Violence

This case adds to a disturbing trend of family-related homicides in Kenya. Just weeks before this incident:

In Murang’a, a 53-year-old woman allegedly beat her 27-year-old son to death using a wooden plank after a heated family argument

In Kirinyaga, a 70-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his 32-year-old son to death over a land dispute.

“These cases show that domestic violence is escalating. There is an urgent need for awareness and interventions,” said a child protection officer from the Ministry of Social Services.

Justice for the Young Victim

Melvin Owuor remains in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served.

“We will ensure those responsible face the full force of the law. Child abuse cannot be tolerated,” a senior officer at the Nairobi Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated.
