A wave of posts showing young people posing with bows and arrows accompanied by captions targeting specific Kenyan communities has gone viral on Facebook in the last 24 hours.

Screenshots reviewed by Daily Whistle show three separate accounts posting similar images with text in Swahili and Sheng that express hatred toward Kikuyu and Luo communities and reference the 2027 elections.

One post has over 2.4K likes and 3.1K comments, another has 2.6K likes, showing how fast the content is spreading.

The posts come as political tension rises ahead of the 2027 General Election. Similar bow-and-arrow imagery has been used in the past to signal ethnic mobilization, particularly in Nakuru, Narok and Njoro areas that have a history of post-election violence.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has previously warned that hate speech on social media increases sharply 18 months before elections. Under Kenyan law, ethnic contempt and incitement to violence are punishable under the NCIC Act.

Facebook's Community Standards also prohibit content that attacks people based on ethnicity.
