Thug Shot Dead as Mission to buy avocado turns Ugly

Detectives shot dead a man believed to be a member of a notorious gang that has been terrorizing residents of Thika town.

According to The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives, the thug was part of the gang that was robbing pedestrians of their valuables along the Kiang’ombe-Railway road at around 9pm.

The detectives said that the gang was armed with a firearm and crude weapons.

The thugs accosted two young men believed to be students at the Thika-based Mt. Kenya University.

“The students who later told detectives that they we’re going to buy the much-coveted avocado fruit, were ordered to surrender all their earthly possessions including mobile phones, belts, shoes, and clothes. “ DCI said.

The thugs forced the students to surrender their Mpesa PIN numbers at gunpoint. One student let out loud piercing shrieks of despair that attracted the attention of police officers who were on patrol.

“Luckily, two cops on foot patrol heard the call of distress and rushed to the aid of the victims. What followed was a fierce exchange of fire between the cops on a mission to rescue the students and the thugs who were fighting to escape the wrath of the law enforcement officers.”

“When the guns went silent, one thug lay lifeless in a pool of blood as his accomplices leapt to a getaway motorbike heavily wounded.”

Detectives recovered a firearm with two rounds of ammunition and a machete from the slain thug. Detectives are still pursuing the rest of the gang members.
