The two-day forum was led by UDA Chairperson Hon. Cecily Mbarire and newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Ruku, himself a son of Mbeere North.
Honoring Leadership and Embracing Unity
In her opening remarks, Hon. Mbarire emphasized the retreat’s purpose: to reflect on the region’s pressing needs, review current development initiatives, and ensure a transparent process heading into the Mbeere North by-election.
“This retreat wasn’t just about politics; it was about people. We are determined to ensure that whoever carries the UDA flag in Mbeere North is deeply rooted in the needs of the community,” said Mbarire.

The gathering came at a defining moment following the elevation of Hon. Geoffrey Ruku to the Cabinet, a move hailed by leaders as a milestone for Mbeere North and a clear signal that inclusivity in governance is gaining traction.
“The people of Mbeere North deserve leaders who are not only accessible but also solutions-driven,” said CS Ruku. “This is not about personalities—it’s about progress, about service, and about delivering results.”

Transparent Nominations, Issue-Based Campaigns
The retreat placed a strong emphasis on a free, fair, and credible nomination process—a key concern ahead of the highly anticipated by-election.
All UDA aspirants were assured that the nomination exercise will be transparent and democratic, with equal opportunity for every candidate.
“The unity we’ve seen here is a powerful signal that Mbeere North is ready to turn the page,” said Leonard Wamuthende, a UDA aspirant. “We welcome a nomination process that is above board, and that puts the people first.”
Josiah Thiriku, another leading aspirant, added: “UDA is not just a party. It is a movement anchored in values, driven by vision, and rooted in the reality of our people.”
Development Priorities for Mbeere North
Discussions during the retreat focused on development priorities such as: infrastructure and roads, youth and women empowerment, agriculture and irrigation, and access to quality education and healthcare.
Aspirants agreed to run issue-based campaigns and pledged to uphold UDA’s ethos of bottom-up economic transformation.
United for a Common Goal
In a joint statement signed by the party leaders and aspirants, UDA pledged to walk the journey ahead with the people, for the people.
“We are committed to ensuring that the people of Mbeere North are not shortchanged. Our candidate will be one chosen through merit, transparency, and with the blessing of the people.”
The statement also reaffirmed the party’s unwavering belief in servant leadership, unity, and transformative governance.
The Way Forward
As the by-election draws near, UDA’s message is clear: leadership is about service, and service starts with listening, planning, and staying accountable to the people
