National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has endorsed President William Ruto’s decision to form an inclusive government, stressing its importance for ensuring stability and peace in Kenya.
Wetang’ula emphasized that the move is a strategic step toward unifying the nation, especially during these challenging times.
Speaking during a church service at Mukweya Catholic Church in Kabuchai Constituency, Bungoma County, Wetang’ula highlighted the significance of having opposition leaders in the Cabinet.
He noted that these leaders had been tested in previous roles and possessed the necessary experience and capability to drive the government agenda forward. Wetang’ula urged all Kenyans to support these leaders to ensure the success of the administration.
The Speaker pointed out that the inclusion of opposition figures in the government had significantly reduced the political tension that had been escalating in the country.
Prior to this decision, there had been widespread protests by the youth, who were demanding better governance. Wetang’ula argued that the formation of an inclusive government has addressed some of these concerns, creating a more stable political environment.
Wetang’ula insisted that the move has not only calmed the political atmosphere but also raised hopes among Kenyans for a more unified and effective government.
He referenced the failed Nane Nane demonstrations, which had been planned by opposition groups but did not gain significant traction.
Wetang’ula interpreted this as a sign that Kenyans are now more focused on the positive developments and opportunities that the unity government presents.
Wetang’ula acknowledged that Kenya, like many other countries, is facing its share of economic and social challenges. However, he was quick to point out that violence and destruction are not the solutions to these problems. Instead, he called for constructive dialogue and collaboration among all political leaders to address the nation’s issues.
The Speaker also took the opportunity to commend President Ruto for his leadership in navigating the country through a difficult period. He stated that the president’s willingness to bring opposition leaders into the fold demonstrated a commitment to national unity and reconciliation. Wetang’ula believes this approach will ultimately strengthen the country’s democratic institutions.
In his remarks, Wetang’ula appealed to Kenyans to be patient with the new government, noting that the challenges facing the nation cannot be solved overnight. He assured the public that the leaders included in the Cabinet are dedicated to working for the common good of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
Wetang’ula further emphasized the need for continued peace and stability in the country, which he said are prerequisites for economic growth and development. He urged all political leaders, both in government and opposition, to put the interests of the country first and work together for the betterment of all Kenyans.
The Speaker also addressed the youth, encouraging them to engage in productive activities and avoid being used as instruments of violence by political actors. He reiterated that the government is committed to addressing their concerns and creating opportunities for their growth and development.
Wetang’ula reaffirmed his support for President Ruto’s inclusive government and called on all Kenyans to do the same.
He expressed optimism that with unity and cooperation, the country would overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.
