Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho are among the top government officials attending ODM leader Raila Odinga’s event at Kasarani Stadium.
The Cabinet Secretaries have been criticized by the Deputy President William Ruto for engaging in politics. While addressing rallies in Kisii the deputy president urged civil servants to be neutral and serve Kenyans instead of politicking.
The United Democratic Alliance had written to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Comission chairman Wafula Chebukati against Cabinet Secretaries from being in politics.
The cabinet secretaries have been seen as representing the president who is away in Tanzania for an official state visit.
Among other Cabinet secretaries that attended the Azimio La Umoja at Kasarani are CSs’ Ukur Yatani (National Treasury), Keriako Tobiko (Environment), Sicily Kariuki (Water), Peter Munya (Agriculture) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) also attended the event.
Other leaders included a host governors: Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli, 20 governors led by Council of Governors chairman Martin Wambora (Embu) and Vice-chairperson James Ongwae.
Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet), Ali Korane (Garissa), Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) Nderitu Muriithi (Laikipia), James Nyoro (Kiambu), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua) and Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado).
Hundreds of members of Parliament attended the meeting.
Earlier on their was chaos at the Kasarani stadium as members of the public were entering the stadium and blocking the VIP entrance.
