As has been in the media for the past few weeks, Erik Ten Hag is going to be the new United manager. In this article, I give you an insight into what is going on behind the scenes with regard to Ten Hag’s impending arrival.
Erik ten Hag is the perfect manager for Man United, however, it should be noted that his appointment will not be a quick fix. To fully implement his detailed vision at the club, he asked for at least 2 full seasons before they could evaluate his work on tangible successes.
He emphasized several times in the meeting that he would not be the right coach if the club wanted to achieve short-term success. In addition, he revealed his plans for youth work. Since the market has been producing little or no strikers for years, he wants the scouting department and the academy to shift resources to searching for and developing strikers.
He also demanded that he be allowed to choose his coaching staff, in consultation with the club. Several candidates have been identified as possible assistants to the current Ajax manager if he takes over at United. Robin Van Persie was asked if he were interested in becoming the forward coach at Man United and not an assistant. United legend Jaap Stam is one of those on the shortlists for the assistant manager position.
Erik ten Hag also told Man United that achieving sporting goals can only be achieved by reducing media obligations for players. He is convinced that the team has too few training sessions and too many PR appointments.
Except for small details, everything is clear between Manchester United and Erik ten Hag. United are in talks with Ajax as they aim to announce Ten Hag as soon as possible but ‘definitely before the end of the season. Ajax wants to delay it until the Eredivisie has been decided.
Players and staff have recently been informed that Erik ten Hag will be the new manager of Man United. Most of the squad are happy with the club’s direction of hiring a modern and ambitious coach. At the club, Erik ten Hag is already jokingly referred to as ‘Our Pep’. Cristiano is said to be very happy to work with Ten Hag next season.
