Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) detectives have rescued a five-year-old child who is believed to have been abducted.
In a joint operation, DCI Detectives and General Duty officers from Endebess Sub-county, arrested a 27-year-old man and rescued a five-year-old child believed to have been abducted by him and taken to the Kapnandi area in Uganda.
Hosea Kiptoo Satia, a resident of Kolongei area in Matumbei location, is suspected of having kidnapped the minor on July 23, 2024.
“After crossing into Uganda, Satia allegedly left the child with an elderly woman named Celestine Koronyeny while demanding Ksh 100,000 in ransom for the child’s release.” DCI noted.
Following an intensive investigation, detectives managed to track down Satia at his hideout.
He subsequently led the authorities to Uganda, where the child was safely recovered and the second suspect, Koronyeny, was also apprehended.
“The rescue operation was a collaborative effort with the Ugandan authorities, and we are pleased to have reunited the child with their family,” said a DCI spokesperson.
A children’s officer assisted in returning the child to their parents, while the suspects were processed for arraignment.
The suspects have since been arraigned and released on a Ksh 100,000 cash bail.
The community has praised the swift action of the police.
“We are grateful for the efforts of the officers in bringing our child back safely. This incident has shown us the importance of vigilant and dedicated law enforcement.”
