The Office of the Party Leader on Friday, November 6, 2026, issued a strongly worded statement dismissing what it described as “malicious, unfounded fake news and propaganda” concerning Oburu’s health and wellbeing.
The statement came amid growing attention online over reports about the health of the senior ODM politician.
Oburu Oginga health latest
According to the statement issued by the Dr Oburu Oginga Secretariat, the ODM leader was not in the condition being portrayed on social media.
“We wish to assure the general public, members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the people of Siaya County, and the entire nation that Dr. Oburu Oginga is well, safe, and in good spirits,” the secretariat said.
The office specifically accused blogger Maverick Aoko of circulating what it termed false information about Oburu's health.
“The Office of the Party Leader wishes to categorically condemn and debunk the malicious, unfounded fake news and propaganda currently being circulated on social media platforms by Maverick Aoko regarding the health and wellbeing of the senior statesman and ODM Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga,” the statement said.
The secretariat said the reports had caused unnecessary concern among members of the public and Oburu's supporters.
“It is deeply unfortunate that in this modern age of free information, digital connectivity, and open media, individuals choose to weaponize online platforms to cyberbully, peddle reckless falsehoods, and spread fake narratives for cheap attention,” it said.
What Oburu Oginga is doing
The statement provided an account of Oburu's activities, saying he remained engaged despite being advised by his doctors to rest.
The secretariat said Oburu was preparing an official speech for the handover ceremony of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang'o ka Jaramogi.
“In an ironic twist of fate to the merchants of propaganda, at the exact moment these malicious rumors were being manufactured and spread online, Dr. Oburu was actively in the middle of preparing his official speech for the high-profile handover ceremony of the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang'o ka Jaramogi,” the office said.
The statement nevertheless acknowledged that Oburu has been placed under medical instructions to reduce strenuous activities.
“While Dr. Oburu continues to observe strict directives from his doctors to take a forced rest and limit heavy physical engagements, he remains fully updated, mentally alert, and deeply engaged in key party and national matters,” it said.
The clarification indicates that while Oburu is taking a break from heavy physical engagements, he continues to follow political developments and participate in important party matters.
Oburu secretariat warns against fake news
Oburu's office also appealed to Kenyans and media organisations to verify information before publishing or sharing claims about his health.
“We urge members of the public and the media to ignore the sensationalist fabrications being peddled by attention seeking bloggers and instead rely on official communication channels,” the statement said.
The secretariat further disclosed that the matter could be pursued through legal channels.
“We are in communication with the party leadership to handle the matter legally,” it said.
The office also issued a warning against what it described as cyberbullying and deliberate misinformation targeting ODM leadership.
“Cyber bullying and the deliberate spread of misinformation targeted at its leadership” should stop, the statement said, urging those responsible to “cease these toxic digital behaviors.”
Why Oburu Oginga's health has attracted attention
Oburu is a senior figure within ODM and remains an important player in the party's leadership and political affairs.
His health has therefore attracted significant public interest, particularly amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The latest statement from his secretariat seeks to draw a clear distinction between his doctors' advice to rest and the more serious claims circulating online.
For now, Oburu's office maintains that the ODM leader is “well, safe, and in good spirits” while continuing to observe medical advice to limit strenuous physical engagements.
