Umoja Sharks Swimming club received a major boost after they were given a warm send-off and cash token by Embakasi West Legislator Hon. Mark Mwenje.
The glamour team comprising of 34 skilled swimmers will be traveling to Arusha Tanzania this weekend for the Chipkizi swimming invitational Swimming gala .
Mwenje who was appointed recently by the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) to replace Sabina Chege as Deputy minority whip expressed his unwavering support for the team.
He vowed to assist the swimmers in reaching their utmost potential.
The Chipkizi Swimming event which is sanctioned by the Tanzania National Sports Council(TNSC) will attract scouts from European nations seeking promising talents in swimming for potential scholarships at Spain’s Nastic Sports Academy, combining academic pursuits with professional swimming training.
Several Kenyan teams, such as Supermarlins, Lukenya Academy, Juja Prep and Senior School, Regis School, Potterhouse School, Nyahururu Elite, Woodcreek School, Dashing Dolphins, and Condor Swim Club, will feature in the Arusha Swimming event.
Tanzania will be represented by teams from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, and Moshi respectively.
The inaugural swimming championship run concurrently with the East African Chipkizi Soccer Cup, a renowned tournament attracting over 300 teams from across Africa, established over a decade ago as the continent’s largest youth soccer event.
Various partners, including Future Stars Academy, Genesis Sports Limited, and Touride Adventures, are supporting the tournament.
Other noteworthy upcoming international sports tournaments encompass the Kampala Invitation Swimming Championship set for April in Uganda and a combined soccer and swimming camp in Barcelona, Spain,that is scheduled for July 2024.
