Moses Kuria: Uhuru Is Not Ready For Peaceful Transition

Gatundu South Member Of Parliament Moses Kuria has alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not ready for a peaceful transition

With just less than three months to the August general elections, Kuria questioned why President Uhuru has not appointed Secretary to the Cabinet which he said plays a crucial role in transition after the August election.

“The Assumption of Office Law is very clear. The Chairman of the Assumption of Office Committee shall be the Secretary to the Cabinet. Since Parliament rejected Monica Juma 6 years ago, that position has been vacant.” Moses Kuria said

The Chama Cha Kazi Party leader urged the President to fill the position, he said that the office as it is constituted today, would not have a chairperson.

“I call upon President Kenyatta to name the Secretary to the Cabinet with immediate effect so as to give life to this transition committee with only 90 days to go. Failure to do so will lend credence to aspersions that he is nor ready for a peaceful transition.”

Garissa Township Member Parliament Aden Duale also questioned the president’s decision and urged relevant organs to appoint the secretary to the Board

“The time is fast ticking and I do hope that the relevant bodies will move with speed and put in place the leadership of the Committee,” Duale said.

The position has been vacant since 2015 when the National Assembly rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee for the position Dr Monica Juma.
