ODM Announces Key Leadership Changes Amid Resignations

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced significant leadership changes following a series of high-profile resignations.

The ODM Central Management Committee convened today to address the vacancies left by the departure of two Deputy Party Leaders, the National Chairman, the Secretary for Political Affairs, and a member of the Party’s Elections Coordinating Committee.

The committee’s deliberations have drawn considerable interest from across the party’s membership, with many stepping forward to serve.

“We wish to thank all those who offered themselves to serve, acknowledging that many of them have already been of great service to the Party,” said ODM Secretary General Hon. Edwin Sifuna.

He added, “Whilst not all of us can lead at the same time, we encourage those who may not get the nod that there will always be space for all of you to contribute.”

The Central Committee has put forward the following recommendations to the National Executive Committee (NEC) to fill these critical positions:

Kakuta Maimai (MP, Kajiado East) – Secretary for Special Programs and Social Welfare Rahab Robi (Migori) – Secretary of Publicity and Information, Rosa Buyu – Secretary for Political Affairs, Ruth Odinga – Deputy Organizing Secretary John Ariko (MP) – Vice Chairman.

Others are Otiende Amolo (MP) Vice Chairman, Gladys Wanga – National Chairperson, Godfrey Osotsi, HE Simba Arati, and Abdulswamad Sherriff Nassir – Deputy Party Leader

A notable development is the proposal of three names for the position of Deputy Party Leader, which may necessitate amendments to the ODM constitution.

“We will be making a recommendation to the NEC and the NGC to make the necessary changes to our constitution to reflect this,” Sifuna stated.

These leadership changes come at a crucial time for ODM, as the party aims to strengthen its internal structure and maintain cohesion.

“This is a new chapter for our party, and we believe these appointments will help us steer ODM towards greater unity and success,” Sifuna concluded.

The recommendations now await approval by the NEC, marking a potential shift in the party’s leadership as it navigates these challenging times.
