A Haaland-less Dortmund were yesterday stunned by Glasgow Rangers who claimed a 4-2 win. It would have been fair to say that that attacking talent possessed by the Bundesliga side would have been enough to cover for their star striker. An attacking trident of Captain Reus, Julian Brandt, England sensation Bellingham all behind the talented Donyell Malen were unable to secure a win for the Black and Yellows. This win has put Van Bronckhorst’s side firmly in the driving seat in the return legto be played next week. Dortmund however need to score three goals and ensure Rangers do not score. A daunting task indeed. A positive though is that Marco Rose will have Erling Haaland to call upon when Dortmund face Rangers in Glasgow next week
Elsewhere at the Camp Nou, Barca were held to a 1-1 draw by Napoli in their first match in the Europa league in 18 years. The visitors tool the lead in the 38th minute through Piotr Zielinski. However, Barca were able to claw back into the game through a controversial penalty that was slotted in by Ferran Torres just before the half hour mark. Despite the Blaugrana looking threatening in front of the goal with their new front three of Torres, Traore and Aubameyang all having shots on goal, the hosts were unable to convert their chances and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. This tie is very much open with both sides level as they go into the second leg. This should be an enthralling encounter next week.
