Breaking News: Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attacked in Limuru

A burial service in Limuru, Kiambu County, descended into chaos on Wednesday when suspected goons disrupted the event, leading to violent confrontations and injuries.

The incident, which took place at a high-profile funeral attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, forced security personnel to intervene and evacuate the politician.

Eyewitnesses reported that the service was proceeding smoothly until a group of unidentified individuals began heckling and hurling objects at the mourners.

The disruption quickly escalated into physical altercations, with chairs and other items being used as weapons.

“It was shocking and terrifying. One moment we were mourning, and the next, people were running for their lives,” said a mourner who requested anonymity.

The violent scenes caused injuries to several attendees, with some requiring medical attention. Authorities on the ground acted swiftly to escort Gachagua and other dignitaries to safety.

“Our priority was ensuring the safety of the former Deputy President and restoring order,” said Limuru Police Commander James Njoroge.

Preliminary investigations suggest the chaos may have been politically motivated. Local leaders condemned the incident, calling for swift action to identify and prosecute those responsible.

“This level of impunity is unacceptable. Funerals are sacred and must not be turned into arenas for political theatrics,” said Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa.

Police have since launched a probe to determine the identity and motives of the perpetrators. They have also vowed to enhance security at public events in the area.

Meanwhile, residents have expressed concern over the growing trend of violence disrupting community gatherings, urging leaders to foster unity and respect.
