The Gov’t Will Not Shut Down The Internet During 2022 Elections

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Fred Matiang’I has assured Kenyans that the government will not shut down the internet during August General elections.

Matiang’I who was in Naivasha during a workshop to Launch the National Cybersecurity strategy,said that the government respects freedom of expression despite some people abusing the freedom

“The government is not going to act other wise, we will respect freedoms in the hope as we respect the freedoms of others, those who would like to exercise freedoms of expressions in supporting their preferred candidate and individuals will do so while taking it into consideration the welfare of the whole society” the Cabinet Secretary said

“No amount of insults will or no amount of criticism of us in the executive branch of government will tempt us enough to resort to retrogressive acts of interfering with freedoms like shutting the internet” Matiangi continued

Rumors were rife that the government will shut down the internet the same way the Ugandan government shut down the internet during the general elections
