Traffickers Caught Red-handed; Narcotics Seized in Coastal,Central and Nyanza Sting Operations

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have dismantled three drug trafficking operations in coordinated busts across Mombasa, Murang’a, and Siaya counties, recovering large quantities of heroin and cannabis and arresting three key suspects.

Heroin Recovered in Msambweni
In the coastal town of Msambweni, ANU officers arrested Shee Hussein, a well-known suspect in drug trafficking circles, at the Magaoni area. Acting on precise intelligence, the detectives intercepted Hussein aboard a public service vehicle. A swift search led to the recovery of 200 grams of heroin, discreetly stashed in his left trouser pocket.

Under pressure, the suspect led officers to his home, where they uncovered an additional 19 packages of Cannabis sativa. Hussein is currently being held at Kilindini Port Police Station and is undergoing formal processing ahead of arraignment.

“This arrest is a direct result of our intelligence-led approach to tracking traffickers at all levels,” said a senior officer from the Mombasa Anti-Narcotics Unit, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Massive Bhang Stash Found in Murang’a
In a separate operation executed by ANU detectives based at the DCI Headquarters, Henry Mburu Njogu was apprehended in Kabati, Murang’a County. Officers intercepted Njogu while he was driving a Toyota Rumion (Reg. No. KCP 885G). A search at his residence led to the recovery of a staggering 21 sacks of Cannabis sativa, indicating possible intent to supply. He is currently being detained at Mutahiga Police Station.

“This was a well-planned bust. The suspect was under surveillance for weeks,” said a DCI operations official. “The amount recovered points to structured distribution, not personal use.”

4,600 Sticks of Bhang Seized in Usenge
Meanwhile, in a multi-agency operation in Usenge, police arrested Francis Odhiambo Ochieng, alias Odhis. Officers recovered 4,600 sticks of bhang during the sting. Ochieng, believed to be part of a larger cross-border trafficking ring, is in custody and expected in court soon.

“This arrest is significant for border security. We’re not just seizing drugs — we’re disrupting entire supply routes,” a local enforcement commander told The Daily Whistle.

Legal Action Underway
All suspects are set to face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, which imposes stiff penalties for trafficking, including long-term imprisonment.

“We are committed to neutralizing drug networks — from street pushers to cross-border suppliers,” said a spokesperson at DCI Headquarters. “These arrests should send a clear message: your days are numbered.”

Interior CS Murkomen Vows Firm Action
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen lauded the successful operations, saying the government will intensify the war on narcotics.

“We will not relent. Drug traffickers are enemies of progress, and we will dismantle their empires brick by brick,” said Murkomen in a statement.
