UDA Slams Gachagua as ‘Most Divisive Leader’ After Resignation

Gachagua’s Exit Draws Sharp Rebuke From UDA

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially acknowledged the resignation of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the party—but with a scathing dismissal of his leadership and legacy.

In a blunt letter signed by UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, the party accused Gachagua of tribalism, incompetence, and defiance of the party’s socio-economic agenda. The statement was issued hours after Gachagua publicly announced his resignation on social media.

“Your belated resignation is a futile attempt to rewrite the facts of your incompetence,” wrote Senator Omar.
“You distinguished yourself as the worst of the tribal bigots to hold such high office in Kenya.”

A Bitter Fallout Following Impeachment

Gachagua, who served as Deputy President between September 2022 and October 2024, was impeached by Parliament in a dramatic turn that fractured his relationship with the ruling party. UDA notes in the letter that he had already been removed from his role as Deputy Party Leader following the impeachment.

“Through Parliament’s constitutional preserve to impeach, the UDA government rid itself of the worst tribal demagogue to hold such senior position in government in our history as a nation,” the letter adds.

Clashing Ideologies: The PLAN vs. ‘Shadoof Politics’

UDA’s letter highlights Gachagua’s alleged failure to support THE PLAN—the party’s cornerstone economic strategy aimed at national transformation.

“Your inability to internalize THE PLAN… reveals your immersion in medieval ethno-feudal class domination,” reads the strongly-worded statement.
“Your methods, reminiscent of colonial relics of balkanization, offend every aspect of THE PLAN.”

The party further described his theory of “shareholding” in government—widely interpreted as advocating for ethnic-based appointments—as divisive and outdated.

Mixed Public Reaction and Political Speculation

Kenyans reacted swiftly online, with some supporting UDA’s tough stance while others criticized the tone of the letter.

Political analyst Dr. Roselyn Mambo of the University of Nairobi told The Daily Whistle:

“This isn’t just a resignation. It’s a political divorce—and a warning to anyone inside the party still aligned with Gachagua’s style of leadership.”

Public commentator Peter Macharia added:

“The letter is brutal, but it defines a clear ideological line heading into 2027.”

Gachagua Defends Record, Eyes Future Moves

In his resignation post, Gachagua pushed back against his critics, saying:

“I leave with my head held high. I have served Kenya with loyalty and conviction.”

While he has not indicated his next steps, political observers speculate he may rally Mount Kenya leaders into a new alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.

What This Means for UDA Ahead of 2027

With Gachagua now officially severed from UDA, the party appears intent on repositioning itself as a national, non-ethnic political force.

“UDA will always preserve the unity of the State at any cost,” the letter concludes.
“Kwaheri.”
