Embattled United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has been kicked out of his position
In a significant development, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) convened today to address recent events within the party and the broader national context.
Responding to requests from its members, the session’s outcomes mark a pivotal moment for the party’s internal dynamics and strategic direction.
“We have noted the progressive continuation of our grassroots election in the first phase,” a statement from the NEC read.
“We have directed the National Elections Board to make necessary adjustments and continue with the elections in the rest of the counties as earlier communicated.”
These elections are crucial for empowering party members to select their leaders from the polling center to the national level.
The NEC emphasized its constitutional mandate to provide policies and political guidance to the UDA.
“Over time, we must continually realign our policies and political guidance with the broader national political landscape and our collective aspirations,” the committee stated.
As the governing and policy-making organ, the NEC is instrumental in shaping the party’s political agenda.
To accelerate the party’s agenda and foster an inclusive, participative, and consultative organization, the NEC announced the implementation of several administrative measures.
“The Party will be implementing a raft of governing and administrative measures to set forth a distinctive path of inclusive, participative, and consultative organization,” the NEC declared.
Following extensive deliberations, the NEC decided to designate Vice-Chairperson Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan as the acting Secretary General on an interim basis.
“In compliance and in accordance with its mandate under Article 8.2 of the Party Constitution, the National Executive Committee has determined to designate the Vice-Chairperson, Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan, to act as the Secretary General on an interim basis,” the statement concluded.
Consequently, the appointment of Hon. Cleophas Malala as the interim Secretary General has been revoked, effective immediately.
