Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders for talks on political unity and the future of a movement seeking to build a stronger, more inclusive political platform.

Natembeya said the meeting at his Milimani residence brought together aspirants from Trans Nzoia and beyond for discussions centred on shared political interests and the need for collective leadership.

In a statement, the governor described the engagements as constructive, signalling continued consultations among leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement as political alignments take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“This morning, I was joined at my Milimani residence by my brothers from Linda Mwananchi, led by Hon. Edwin Sifuna,” Natembeya said.

He added that the leaders were united by a common commitment to building a political movement that prioritises the interests of the people.

The governor emphasised the importance of consultation and cooperation, saying the movement's future would depend on its ability to bring together leaders with a shared vision.

“Our focus remains on unity, consultation, and building a common front that reflects the aspirations of the people of Trans Nzoia,” he said.

Natembeya maintained that lasting political change could not be achieved through individual efforts alone, calling for collective action and principled leadership.

“The future we seek can only be achieved through collective effort, principled leadership, and a genuine commitment to change,” he added.

The meeting comes amid wider political realignments as leaders and political formations position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Linda Mwananchi has emerged as a significant opposition political formation, with Sifuna selected as its leader and presidential candidate following a leadership retreat in September 2026. The movement has also expressed its intention to work with like-minded political parties.

However, Natembeya's latest statement did not disclose the names of the aspirants who attended Friday's meeting or indicate whether the discussions produced specific agreements on nominations, party arrangements or electoral strategy.

Focus on Trans Nzoia Political Aspirants

The participation of aspirants from Trans Nzoia and other areas points to the importance of consultations beyond the movement's national leadership.

Natembeya said the leaders were seeking to build a common front that reflects the aspirations of the people of Trans Nzoia.

The governor did not provide further details about the individual aspirants, the political positions discussed or any resolutions reached during the meeting.

Any formal agreement emerging from the engagements would provide a clearer indication of how the leaders intend to coordinate their political activities as the next general election approaches.

Natembeya to Join Sirende Residents in Mourning Lazarus Opicho

After the political meeting, Natembeya said he would proceed to Sirende Ward to join the family and community in paying their last respects to the late Lazarus Opicho.

The governor expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for strength and comfort as they mourned their loss.

“We stand with his family during this difficult time and pray that they find strength and comfort in their loss,” he said.

Natembeya concluded his tribute with a message of condolence to the deceased, saying: “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

The day's engagements combined political consultations with a community mourning event, as the governor continued his interactions with leaders and residents of Trans Nzoia County.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, further details from the meeting could help clarify the political priorities and cooperation plans of Natembeya and the Linda Mwananchi leadership.
